I am trying to find a way to record 4 tracks (live) at once with a decent but affordable audio interface

Either fire wire or usb.

I have purchased an Alexis I04 recently , but it wont play ball with Acid Pro 8 and the Cubase wont work either..

So it works as a mixer but not as a recording interface for me.

I have been recomended the Akai unit, but on the internet this also has lots of driver issues.

Previously I have used a Line pod 6 UX2 which is brilliant, but it only does 2 channels at once.

Plus the valve recording station shown above..(cheap used off ebay)

Help has anyone cracked an easy afordable way of doing this with low noise, maybe with a USB mixer.?

I'm trying to find the right bit of kit seems much more tricky than it needs to be..

Also do cheap USB mixers add loads of noise or are they ok for recording and does anyone do one that allows four track recording into Acid pro all at once.

All ideas are wellcome.....

I just looked at what's out there for usb2   4 ch. not much ,if 2 isn't enough 4 might not be for long if your doing drum vocal guitar harp and whatever else. There is a problem with a mixer in front of the interface is you lose some mixing abilities later.

It's nice to mix the stereo field last, e-drum are much easier to record then acoustic drums think of recording with 8 drum mic's  you can press them in one track but if you can it's really nice to have them all on different tracks when mixing later.

So if your going to drop the $  bug do it with the thought  that you'll have more then enough track to do what you want. Don't run one piece of gear just to make the next piece of gear work. I have been there and it cost just as much $ with more headaches.

Having spend 4 eveings of my life trying to sort this Alesis I04 out, I yet again find my self failing to get it to work and wasting another evening.

I would recomend you avoid it and keep your money. It's far too difficult to get to work and has sapped all the joy out of music making. If I didnt need the money back I would smash it up!

Have decided to return it just like the one I had before. Hey ho back to the drawing board..

Another 1.30min in trying again to load cubase and get it eregistered...nope it ain't going to happen... and severl more emails to steinberg...send it back...and buy a decent one!
