Oliva Cigar Box Uke on the top of Mt. Leconte
While hiking to the top of Mt. Leconte In the Great Smokey Mountains I stopped into the lodge at the peak. This lodge is surrounded by cabins that used to be part of an old logging camp and has been on top of that mountain for ages. It is only accessable by foot via several trails, one of which is off the appalachian trail. I have hiked to the lodge several times via the Alum Bluff Cave trail, a 10 mile round trip hike up a rocky trail with breathtaking views.
The lodge itself is a walk back in time with the wall lined with photos, newspaper articles, oil lamps (no electricity on the mountain top) and other things dating back through the years. This year there was a surprise on the wall that I had not seen before. A cigar box uke made from an Oliva box. It did not look very old so I know someone had to have hiked it up there recently.
If you are reading this and are the builder, let me know. The volunteers that work the lodge did not know where it came from.

I would say it looks rather new-ish. Might have been left or bought by a traveler.

Thats interesting, and I'm down at the bottom of that MTN here in Gatlinburg,,,,,,selling CBG's.I'm not the builder, as the market here wont support a nice build like that.At least not in the numbers I need to make it worth dealing with.
Kinda cool knowing its up there though.
