I’m interested in building a 4 String electric CBG.  Have never built a CBG but have taken a couple of classes on building traditional acoustic guitar and have actually built 4 guitars and 2 tenor ukuleles.  I did not install pickups on any of them and no very little about the electric end of things.

Would it be best to just find a 4 String electric kit to do for the first one or are there some resources like detailed plans, books or videos on the CBG build process?  I appreciate any guidance y’all can provide.

Thanks,

Mark

  • Hi Mark and welcome. If you have some background in guitar building, utilise that same knowledge into building a CBG. After all it is also a box with a neck and strings, just a different shape. Same principals, only everything is easier and less stressful.

What the others say here is all good info.

  • Kits may work, but sounds like your building skills are already well beyond them. Consider purchasing a pick up harness from CBGitty. Many varieties available. No need to understand wiring diagrams. No soldering, just place it where you want it.

    Welcome aboard!!

  • Dealing with electronics on a cbg build can be as confusing as you make it. I have found in the past builds that the easiest way to get your head around it is to by pick ups pre wired with the harness and all. Depending on the pick up style you want, it's as simple as making the hole to inset the pick up in  and drilling a hole or 2 for the tone and volume pots. There are many ways to build. have a look around and pick the one you think you like. Have fun!

    • Good info, thanks!

  • The very best place to start is right here at the nation and c. b. gitty.
