Hi all,
Been lurking here a few days, just popped on to see how and what (well the basics) of building a CBG.
I have a few things people on the sites on the web know me for, one is recycling/re-purposing for my own benefit, more than the environment.
I am also from the "Monkey See, Monkey Do" school of thought.
Between my wife Nicola and I we have a few interests, she collects smoking pipes and associated "stuff" and has a 1956 Ford Anglia, known as Myrtle, which she chose over an engagement ring when we decided to get married (She does have a thing for diamonds though and got her ring in the end) She is also a great partner in crime, because she both encourages some of my hobbies and interests and allows me to come into the house late from the shed without putting my dinner in the bin.
I have a 1963 Ford Taunus Transit, which I imported from Germany in very late 2007. It was a former village fire engine. Last year we built a Grumann style Teardrop trailer, known as the "Grizz-Pod" as she was named by the members on www.retrorides.proboards.com which is where a lot of what I do gets posted in the Readers other Modifications section. Here is a LINK:

One of the guys I have become great friends with on www.mikenchell.com which is a USA based Teardrop site sent me a small parcel at the end of last year with various items, including Catnip for our cats, some handmade silver jewelery, and a few CBG starter bits, including a cigar box.
I DO NOT PLAY A NOTE OF MUSIC....... But absolutely love music, so was up for the challenge.
I will copy and paste my build progress here for you guys to give input and advice on.
This was the first entry:
Tonight on the way home from London, my wife Nicola texted me to ask if she could open a parcel that had been addressed to Mr & Mrs "Grizz" Of course I said, who is it from ? She texted back Gary in Oklahoma, and then refused to tell me what was in it, except that she loved the contents.
When I got home she gave me a cuppa tea, let me greet the cats etc, then presented me with the box in the photo below.
I will not explain it all, but will say that there was a challenge in the total package..... now the trick is for you guys to figure it out and let us know if you can see what the challenge is that Gary put to me. It is not too cryptic, just look at the contents and think a bit latteraly.
Thanks Gary. .... there goes my holiday break 8)

All three the cats went mad for the catnip, a super charged variety grown for Garys cats.

If you want to see more, let me know..... I do take progress pics a lot.
For those with an interest in old cars etc.... here are the cars.

Looks like you got most of the guts for 2-3 builds there. The cutlery canteen should look and sound awesome, once you strip the felt out. Coupla quickie ways to get your amp built / installed in that Bolivar box:
1) C.B. Gitty sells a relatively inexpensive amp kit; check out his link on the right hand side of the page. Shipping from the States might prove prohibitive for you, so...
2) I believe several UK CBGers have purchased similar kits from Maplin's. Check out the It Goes To 11 amp Group here on CBN, and ask around there.
Oh, and I don't think the pool cue DB needs any adjustment, except maybe improve the grounding by earthing the metal bridge and the mint tin, if you haven't done that already.
Thanks for all the replies guys.
Work has stopped me playing in the shed the last couple of weeks....
Nicola took me to the Cotswolds last weekend for my birthday, and while looking for a wooden wine box to use for an amp build, we found the guy in the specialist wine shop also sold cigars, so I asked him about the boxes and ended up getting two.
He suggested I use the small one to make a banjo, but it seems they need a little different structure.
While out there, we also found some other treasures.... kitchen sink strainers for sound holes, a Church bazaar where I found a decent sized key for £1.50 and a tall shot glass, possibly for a slide, but it is quite thin, so not sure it will work.
Today DHL delivered this 30Watt amp that I had picked up for £30.00 including delivery. They had managed to deliver it with the whole front face shoved backwards but I opened the back and basically forced everything back toward the front.
Need to get a lead for it, and then plug in and power up to see if it works.
Hope to get some time to play in the shed tomorrow.
Want to start on the No2 build now.
Great thread! Especially for a noob like me.
Thanks for keeping it going!
Absolute pleasure, I learn a lot from threads on the forums I play on.
Right, another quick update.
Made up some bottle neck slides today.
Used a very cheap chinese diamond dust covered cutting disc to cut the necks and then followed up with a quick run over the belt sander.
Pics to tell the story.
Moddeled on my mate Pete's fingers..... 4 slides, all different.
Trust you guys/gals like it.
The last two entries are of the DB being Amped, and also Manny having another go on the CBG.

Second link.
Here he was just having fun, and comments about it right at the end.

Let me know what you knowlegeable guys think of the final editions on here.
Off to bed now I think.
Last night I finished the Pool Cue Diddley Bow, played it a bit in the kitchen.....
Played it in the kitchen without an amp, as I do not have one yet.
Sound is quite decent for accoustic in my very limited opinion.

No idea how to embed the links so that there is a pic to click on.
Then I discovered a guy who sold me some cigar boxes at £2.00 each.
One will have to become a small cube amp if I can figure out how to build an amp.
Got given this selection of scrapped bits yesterday..... Humbucker has a place in my minds eye for the next CBG build already.
Nicola had helped her mum clear out the spare room on Wednesday as well, and came home with an old cuttlery canteen, should be a good home for that Humbucker pickup then ?
Right, update time on here.
I hope you guys are either enjoying the updates, or asleep.
After gathering the bits needed, i used masking tape to tie the two cues together.
Next up screws and then made a base plate for the rear anchor, and also ground a space for the bottle bridge.
Next up I cut out some space for the pickup to drop into.
The mint tin was to build the 1/4" plug hole into.
Holes drilled up front, machine head fitted.
Hi Paul (and the rest of you) it is guys like you that get guys like me into trouble, encouraging me to do another build or more.
I am not sure if there are build threads on CBN, so ended up just posting the progress on here.
I also found the uploading onto here is different to other forums, so I cannot copy and paste.
