Starting first build.  Have looked at several YouTubers (Del Puckett, DaddyMoJo, etc.) and neither show videos of exactly what I want to build so that I’d pass measurements by here:

25” Scale Length with neck thru design

Separate fretboard

4” Headstock

1/2” from headstock cut to Nut

25” from Nut to Saddle

Saddle 2” from back end of cigar box

1” neck thru end of cigar box

Couple of questions:

1)  Is 1/2” enough space from the headstock to the Nut?

2)  Is 1” enough space at end of the box for holding the string ends?

3) How far should the heel wood extend into the box?

Is there anything else I’m missing?

Appreciate your help!

Mark

If you accurately have 25" between but and bridge, the rest will pretty much fall in place.

    I am happier with 4 1/2" headstocks.

Placing the saddle  1/4 the length of your box [or perhaps even 1/3] is perhaps a better way to think of it than 2". Although for many boxes 2" may work well. Another consideration is simply the aesthetics of your box. I many times place the saddle where it looks good to my eye.

The heel in many CBGs is the end of the neck brace, so it really goes from the tail all the way you want. Again for me, more a matter of aesthetics than anything.

1" at the end for strings is fine. I have used a bit less at times and a lot more at other times.

There are dozens and hundreds of decent ways to do most of this, and that's not even counting the indecent ways. Don't overthink your 1st one. Its a stick in a box. But have fun, learn a lot and be sure to post pix when you're done!!
