I know it called a Application mountain mountain dulcimer but I live in the Adirondacks so it is named as such.  I have been building for a few years now but just started fretting and this is my first dulcimer and I really like how it came out. It very fun to play and plays very well.

  • Yep, that's a cigar box mountain dulcimer alright! It looks like you got it strung up already. Hope she sounds good.

I assume you cut holes in the adjoining sides of the three cigar boxes so that it forms a single large sound box.

If you are looking for tunes, you might check out this web site: "Yet Another Digital Tradition Page" (http://sniff.numachi.com). What is neat about this site is that for all the songs marked "(with tune)", it will give you an option to display the tune using mountain dulcimer tabulature for a bunch of different tunings, and if you don't see one that works for you, you can enter the notes of what ever tuning suits your fancy. The MD tabs are generated via software, and so not all tunings will work. Those tabulatures with more than a few  "vertically oriented triple Xs" marked across the tabs will probably work much better using another tuning. It takes some experimentation, but it's pretty cool in my opinion.

  • Well done!  I love playing mine - especially tuned DAc to play those minor, drone-y tunes!
