Meet "Deplorable"

This is my 11th build, but the first one I've actually sold (sort of).  I offered to build one as part of a fundraiser for St Judes Children's Hospital, and this is what the auction winner settled on.  He wanted a 3 stringer with a humbucker, tuned EBE.  I went with a 24.5" scale length, and parts from my stash.  The only thing I bought for this was a set of strings.  The neck and box are made from leftover materials after I cut down and refurbished a 100+ year old church pew, and the top is from an old Winchester ammo box my grandfather had.  The bridge and knobs and fret markers are from brass cartridge cases.  Here in the US we have this cranky old lady named Hillary Clinton who likes to shake her finger at us geezers who "cling to our God and our guns," and call us "deplorables", so I figured that was the appropriate name for this one.

  • Thanks guys. We held the auction on Facebook, including some pictures of my past builds and some pics of my available boxes and tins, and just left it open that I'd build whatever the winner wanted, even potentially using materials they had. A lady bid it up to $255 as a gift for her hubby, so I felt pretty good about the outcome. I'll try to get one built ahead of next year's event, and offer that or again something custom for the winner. In the meantime, I want to find time to build myself a 3 string resonator.

  • Nice looking git. I have donated builds for charity before, but it was an auction so they got what was already built.

That's one lucky winner right there.

  • Always a great feeling, a good looker too! Praise the lord & pass the ammunition! :)

  • Awesome the whole story and git

  • Thanks Taff!

  • Hi MadGomer, that's a nice tidy-looking build and a very nice prize for the lucky winner, well done.
