Just finishing a License plate guitar for someone and noticed that the pick up magnets do not stick to the plate? I'm going to use the pick up under the plate as to not obscure any of the plate. Hoping the tone and volume will be good. Anyone else ever do this?

  • I had experience with ghost pickup and licence plate. If it is newer plate (made from aluminium etc.), just glue or tape it under plate, should work good, no problem. But I tried older steel licence plate, where pickup sticks under the plate with its magnet. All good, but in this way the problem is that whole steel plate act as huge pickup beacuse of pickup magnet and there are terrible feedback noises, specially if more gain is used of if you stand close to amp. Can't use ghost pickups in steel licence plate builds.

  • License plates have Aluminum in them, which is not magnetic, but will carry electrical current. If your pickup is rated at 2K or higher, then you have nothing to worry about, most pickup covers are plated Aluminium these days , so it’s all good?
