yep i've got it...I think it's great!!.loads of useful info but not too technical :-)
I have it and I recommend it to everyone I sell a guitar to.I also recommend they get Keni Lee Burguss "how to play 3 string guitar"
Definitely worth the purchase, beats scouring youtube for tid bits ;)
good basic stuff to get you started playing (nothing on building here, just choosing strings and going from there).
Just picked this up last week and thought I'd toss my two cents in. I kind of wish this had been available when I was first trying to figure out the basics. It's a little quick at some things but covers all of the basic basics great. I've only been playing my CBG seriously for about a year and still have a lot to learn - even so a lot of the DVD was just refreshing things I'd already figured out. But for a beginner it would be great to have that information all in one simply presented place like this.

On the other hand it doesn't do much to actually teach you any songs and only begins to touch on the basics of how to jam and improvise.

This and Keni Lee's DVD go well together - there's some overlap between them but they approach those things from just slightly different angles and I find that helpful. But there's a lot of stuff between the two that doesn't overlap. Keni gives more detail on the theory and how to approach composing for 3 string with some knowledge of music theory and guitar technique basics. John gives more of a group up approach of just doing stuff that "sounds good" without having ever touched a guitar before.

If you have some background in music or want some Keni's DVD may be more more along the lines of what someone would benefit from. On the other hand if you aren't looking to play songs you know but just want to pick up a 3 string and make music - or are a total beginner and don't even know how to fret a note yet John's DVD will get you up and going quicker.

In some ways I think Keni's DVD is a slightly better value - which isn't to say Johns price isn't fair, and John's is an actual DVD you can pop in your DVD player and play while Keni's is a collection of WMV files so he's got a bit more post production overhead (and more convenient for me. I actually had to make a DVD of Keni's DVD to be able to watch it in my living room.)

Since you can get both DVD's for about the price of one or two private lessons I'd suggest both to someone starting out not to try and choose between them but rather to pick them both up.

John's stuff was a great inspiration to me before i found the 'Nation, still amazing....!  (-:

For the record, I'm one of Johns biggest fans....

but I think he did a great job at on his DVD. It gives you a great basic start on how to make music verses playing everybody elses. I know most people get into playing with the first thought being they want to learn their favorite tune and what not (and that's completely natural I beleave) but Johns DVD gives you a great basic understanding of how to make music with a CBG in a way that anybody can understand and follow along with. He keeps it simple which in turn lets you start having fun right away.

I can't read music nor do I understand chord theories so Johns DVD suited me great. John gets you to hear it verses seeing it

(not sure how else to put that).

I would tell folks to start with Johns then maybe (if you felt it was necessary) move on from there. If it's in the budget, get both John and Kenny's and you're pretty much covered.

Regardless of what method works for an individual, only practice/playing will make you better. If it's not fun...well you know.

Keep it simple cause simple is good!!

Hi Guys i am pretty new to all this, i am in the UK, i have no PayPal and no Ebay, so my question is this, is this available anywhere in the Uk, or if i send someone the Money could they even purchase for me.

Thanks

If you can post here, you can use ebay and paypal, go to any bank and get a prepaid credit card.

Not so easy for him as he has health issues,  However I have sorted it out for him and he now has the DVD in his possession

Great! It just takes a little help from your friends. I've been working through Keni Lee's videos, which are great, and this thread made me decide to order John's DVD. It takes a while to get to the Bannana Republik Of Italy, but it'll be here one day...

Listen to John's performing vids.  If you like them, buy the teaching vid.  It's not my style, but I still learned a lot from it.  And would buy it again.  Crap, I may have to buy it again.  I loaned it out.

As someone else said, not technical, but simple and useful and you just kind of play it a few times and absorb.
