I put a new sound card (Diamond Extreme 5.1) in my computer a while ago, and I've noticed that there are tons of software amps, effects, and other goodies available to download from various sources.
Never tried to "plug in" directly to the computer, can I just get a 1/4" to 1/8" reduction jack and go directly to the sound card?
I know there are various "interfaces" available, but I'm thinking cheap as usual....

You probably need to double check the recording settings in your Windows sound panel. (The little loudspeaker icon in your system tray)

I stuck a 1/8" adapter onto a guitar cord and plugged it into the "line in" jack on the card... That works and I can hear the guitar through the stereo speakers. However... The card came with the Audacity sound-mixing editing software which I have installed, but I can't get Audacity to recognize the signal.

I did the same thing, just used a reducer and plugged the jack from the piezo into the sound card and it worked pretty well. Not real loud, but good enough for practicing.

I have a copy of "Band In A Box", which is a program with enormous potential but is a little intimidating. So many things you can do....
