been a long time people, I been busy and building a lot of things which for administration reasons I shouldn't post on here, but I got something new I gotta show off and get some advice on.

During the 2020 lockdown, I built my 6 String/coursed string big box build (I haven't named it yet, need suggests there as well) and I loved it. At the moment I'm building another box, gonna have a very different layout and design, but the box will remain pretty much the same,

What I need advice with is the tailpiece, I got 2, one short, one long and I'm not sure what to go with, the length of the tailpiece will have a big effect on the position bridge and I need experienced people for this.
the pictures show what I have in mind, the longer tailpiece looks good but I'm not sure what effect have the bridge over the soundhole cover will have.

Please help me.

Hi JP,

What scale length do you plan to use is a consideration.

The bridge on the wooden surface is better for acoustic sound and your positioning is also close to ideal for the best acoustic responce, on that wooden position. I [if posible] plot the best bridge position, then select the scale length/neck location to suit.

If it's purely electric then it really does not matter.

The pickup and the cover plate will rob some acoustic benefits anyway, as may the metal bridge.

Let's say its main use is electric.

Then regarding the tailpiece, pick the one that gives the best string break angle over the bridge. If the bridge is a decent height this may not be an issue I'm not sure that the length of the string behind the bridge will have an effect, in this case.
And it's easily changed to test.
Cheers Taff

Hi JP,use HTML EDITOR tab, type on the yellow page, then add reply.Do not use visual mode. Somebody is too slack to fix the problem.

I would build the first one.  You may have to build the second one, as well, just to satisfy your curiosity.

purely asthetically the first looks right. the balance is right...
the second with the longer tailpiece with the bridge on the soundhole cover just doesnt look right to me. if you were going for a dobro look then the bridge would look right if it was in the middle of the round metal soundhole cover.

this is just personal taste. you do you. what feel right to you.

That long one is meant for an arch top, actually they both are, so really the best fit for the long one, is going to be f-holes?

Actually Taff, we are at the mercy of long obsolete operating platform, it has nothing to do with any member of CBN,  if Ning decides to change this, than it will get better, but I doubt they will, so til then, we just have to help each other to get our points across?

Hi Brain Q, YepI understand that. But if I was the owner of a forum, I would be on to ning constantly

. I support another guitar forum run by ning, and the problem is not affecting that site. The other site's presentation is similar to CBN and uses the same Visual and HTML tabs, and same loading files procedures, etc.
I agree with helping each other and am happy to do that. So many members' posts are blank and they don't/cant redo them, frustrating.
