Now that I've confessed and suitably admonished myself, I has got a questy-onie.

When I bought the wiring harness the listing said it was for single pickup guitars. Why can't I use it for two pickups though? I mean, I know it hasn't got a pickup selector or anything but, if I don't mind adjusting them both with the same volume and tone pots (both a500k pots with weird looking capacitors on each and a solderless connector for the pickup) why can't I use two pickups on it? I'm building a telecaster style guitar and to my (limited) knowledge they always have two pickups?

I'd appreciate any help on this and, as always, really appreciate your time in helping me out.

Have a great day/evening all!

Telecaster guitars usually have a 3-way switch for choosing each pickup or both in parallel, but flipping the wires for the neck pickup will get you series as long as the cover is separated and has it's own ground wire.

Later they came out with a 4-way switch to enable each pickup, both in parallel and both in series, but the cover mod had to be done as well.

We can just add another pickup in series without a switch though.

You mean three pickups? I do have other ones and that sounds easier with the solderless connector. That would be preferable I think.

No. 2 pickups - 3-way switch to select either pickups or both at the same time in either parallel or series according to how it's wired.

2 pickups - 4-way switch allows either pickup, both in parallel and both in series.

2 pickups - 5-way switch for either pickup, both in parallel(quack), both in series and the last could be different cap value for brighter/darker tone or out of phase tone. This option can get hairy and more options don't always give more likable options. Sometimes less is more.

I have a varitone circuit on one of my guitars that gives 3 different tones for each pickup. I usually only use 1 or 2 of them.

That makes sense. I will have a think and get back to you for the generous offer of walking me through it should I stick with the idea of HAVING to have two pickups. Thanks again and I hope you have a fantastic day.

Time to start the day with a shower and a head-clearing walk I reckon lol

Happy to help. 2:26 am here, I'm going to bed now. LOL have a great day.

You can check the magnetic polarity with a compass.

I'll try and find my compass later and check. Didn't think/know I could check it that way. Thanks again, Paul.

Good news. I found my compass and, pointing the needle at the top of each pickup, one points North and one points South, or towards and away. From rereading what was said earlier I think I understand that this is a good thing? Will wiring in series be possible and easier because of this? As simple (one can hope lol) as putting the "black" wire with the "black" wire and the "white" wire with the "white" wire?

Hope you had a good day and thanks for the help earlier/late last night again.

This means that one pickup is RWRP of the other. No problems with magnetic polarity.

Just have to deal with the cover and base plate grounds to wire the 2 pickups in series.

Who is the maker of the pickups? Is there a stamp or marking on the bottom?

I can't see any maker's mark or stamp on them anywhere. Just the values in k (ohms?) written on them in marker pen probably put there by the eBay seller.

I saw the grounds on the pickups just now when I was looking for the marking/stamps and see what you mean, though I don't know what needs to be done. When you say "deal with" the grounds, do you mean make sure they're grounded properly to avoid hum and/or electric shock? If you could walk/talk me through that then that would be awesome.

Off to bed early tonight as long day tomorrow and didn't sleep well last night again. Will reply in the morning. Thanks again for all your help. :o)

I need you post a couple pics of each pickup if you can. Need pics of the bottom plug area and the top were the wire leads are.

Not 100% sure what you needed photographing but hopefully these are right (if I can figure out how to add them here).
