If you like please post a SHORT explanation of how you got the CBG building, playing addiction.

I had many guitar parts, maybe enough to build 5 or 6 guitars. While in a smoke shop that had a walk in humidor and I saw my first cohiba red dot box and bought it not for a guitar but a just a stash box.

Few days later at a large garage sale bought a guitar body with neck for $6. When I laid the guitar on the bench next to the box the light came on RTZ#1 . First guy to play it like it so I gave it to him.

Then I found this site while trying to put a Smoky Amp in a Acid box and learned about the 386chip.  In 8 years I have built about 34 sting instruments with the help of ya'll thanks.   RTZ

Mine started out when I was looking for a project to keep me busy. I found the Gitty kit on line and thought it would be fun to build. Only problem was it only took me a half an hour to complete.

Well it sounded so good that I did some research on CBGs and the next thing you know I bought 10 boxes from Amazon and started building my own.

I'm about twenty instruments in so far and still have another 10 boxes lying around and some license plates etc. Doesn't look like this little habit's going away anytime soon.

Thanks Blues Frog. I didn't have a gitty kit took about a week

I saw a Shane Speal video on YouTube awhile back and I had a couple boxes that my Dad had in his shop. I already built guitars for several years and thought, why not give it a try.

Thanks Paul,  Blame the King

I was recovering from a hip replacement, bored, and saw an instructable advertised in an e-book I was reading, thought that looks pretty cool, knocked 1 up, rough and ready, but worked ok, and I had the bug, I still get a kick turning strange things into instruments, no dumpster is safe around me.

Thanks Darryl, you can put a string on everything at a Flee Market

I always wanted an electric guitar but couldn't afford the ones I saw at the shop. I bought a DIY Les Paul for cheap because it was classed as blemished (which was a drop of glue smeared around the toggle switch hole). Upon many nights studying and sleeping with the kit, I said I can build one myself.

My first attempt was a mini LP but failed. Strings wobbled and had a couple dead frets. It was sloppy and I wasn't too proud.

Still, I didn't feel to quit, so I made another one, avoiding all mistakes from the past and this time it was a success. So good that my father kept it.

Since that, I just been going crazy building little guitars out of wood I find abandoned on the street.

This here the baby.

Thanks ILL, cool miniLP .   Is That 2 Vol. and 2 Tone controls?

Hey RTZ, thanks, its not my first build but my first successful build. Its has 1 vol. and 1 tone, the other 2 knobs are for the Psycho-Knob. I did the gain knob hack. It worked for a week, but now its dead silent. Good thing is that signal still passes through so the vol and tone knobs are still in affect.

built my first guitar amp for myself around 1980. made several more over the next few years. sold a few built some for family. heard my first CBG type guitar somewhere around 2000 ish, cant remember, but i remember hearing it and wanting one but couldnt afford it. no idea why but i was looking online, probably youtube and saw something about CBG's. eventually found this site several years ago then decided "what the heck"build one. it turned out great ( terrible couldnt give it away) but its great to me. i hardly play my real guitars anymore because this is so much fun. almost got the parts together to build a 3 string bass . got some more boxes and cant decide git or uke.. also got several amp projects on the go too.. i need to get "a round tuit " one of these days and finish things..

Thanks Tim, I built a 3 string bass base off the Swamp Witch desing. I usually decide what to build by box size and bridge position. The bridge position in my book is the most important tonal aspect of building.

Started building some to keep my mind busy while I was unemployed. And being pretty cheap, I just thought it was the perfect thing to do. But not having much place in the house, I tend to recycle the bad builds for parts. I also work a lot to try and salvage them and make them playable... but it doesn't always work that way.

Come to think of it, there isn't a lot of things here that I haven't built or fixed myself...
