Hi Steve, I'm up in Brum and have only been playing a while to .. I got a DVD from a guy in the States. His web site is Red Dog Guitar .. have a look, the video is good and he explains a lot of stuff.

http://reddogguitars.com/cigar_box_guitars_1.html  Heres his web site address ... the disc is about half way down the page.

I'll second that one. Another one to check out is Keni Lee Burgess. He has a series that provide probably the most comprehensive instruction available. I do not have them yet, but he is highly recommended by just about everybody.

check out Keni Lee, he has an ad to the right of this post.

Steve,

It depends on what kind of music you want to play.

If you don't want to sing and want to make cool Delta sounds, check out Red Dog Guitar as Careless John said- listen to some Beetlejuice videos here first- if you like them, the DVD is well worth the money.

Also in the How To Play section, look at Shane Spiel's free instruction.  If you want to sing and play, look in the How To Play section at knotlenny's CBG 101.    Great starter.

If you want to be a master player and will work hard to do it, get Keni Lee Burgess instruction DVDs.

Good wishes.

Steve,

I second, third, fourth, and fifth (there's always room for a fifth >-:E ) what everyone has said here. I would check out all the suggestions, because they all have value.

You'll progress a lot faster, too, especially if you've never played an instrument before. Keni Lee and BeetleJuice McNair's lessons will give you necessary structure, while Shane's and my distant cuz Knotlenny's vids will get you wangling away immediately.

Then there's YouTube, but that will take you longer, unless you have some specific songs you wanna learn. It's also good for randomized gem-finding and time wasting.

And don't forget, just hacking around on the fretboard can also lead to some CB nirvana ( or Nirvana, if you wanna figure out a CB hack of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," or perhaps "Heart Shaped Box" would be more appropriate ;-) ).

Good luck and welcome to the Addiction.

Hi guys, thanks for all the feedback.

I have checked out all the suggested stuff and it all has merit, i was especially taken with Knotlenny's viv even though i know what he is doing is actualy a lot harder than he makes it look!.

I recon i am gonna get a copy of the Red Dog Guitar DVD cos that seems to be a real "Idiots Guide" and Lord knows i qualify for that category!.

I just completed the Neck for my CBG tonight so it's moving foward nicely, i woke up at 4am this morning thinking about the bloody thing and could'nt get back to sleep, this is how it's gonna be i recon, i was the same when i first started learning Blues Harmonica and 5years on i'm still loosing sleep over those little Tin Sandwiches!

By the way to answer Uncle Johns question, it's the blues all the way for me, it was reading a book about Howling Wolf that turned me onto the whole CBG thing so that's where i'm coming from.

At the clubhouse there's a group called cbg for dummies which has some great videos by LJ and myself. Kenis stuff may be a little beyond you for now. Enjoy

Thanks matey, i will check that out.

Glad to meet another blues man.  knotlenny's  CBG 101 free here on the nation will play a 'gajillion' blues songs.
