Hi all, new to site and CBG building.I wanted to make one for my kid. Got myself a Cohiba box. One of the corners is a bit damaged but reckon i can hide that with corner protectors. Box looks like it's had my kids sticky hands on it so looking for some tips. Sand it and stain it? I was hoping to keep the Cohiba bit and words on the side really but any tips welcome.

  • I'd start with a hair dryer and a credit card or plastic putty knife taking off any residual adhesive from stickers that aren't there no more or don't belong.

then go to the goof-off/oops/zippo fluid/ naphtha based adhesive removers if they are stubborn and you are willing to accept some possible varnish removal

  • What Kigar said... sticky often cleans up with paint thinner, too...  It shouldn't affect the existing finish...

  • Agree with Jeff, leave the character. But if you want to get the sticker residue off you could use goof off or similar stuff. If you want to distress it a torch works great.
  • Got me thinking and being creative about starting with its (im)perfections instead of trying to fix or change them....yep you are right! Thanks for that
  • I wouldn't touch it to me its it life story ,or you could distress the surface more if you know what I mean ,nice box you have got there .
