Is there a forum/group on CB nation dedicated to builders/players networking to find gigging opportunities? I've went through the forums and seen the fest info. I also saw a post for the cbggig site, it doesn't seem to be live - or maybe it requires a sign-up.. Just wondering where all the support of each other happens on here? Maybe a clearinghouse of CBG friendly venues/festivals/acts? I dunno, just throwing it out there to see if it sticks. I greatly appreciate any/all input! C'mon all you performing cbg'ists, gimme the scoop!

Hi Spence

I'm the guy who did the cbggigs site. It was done very recently as a response to someone looking for pretty much what you're looking for so is still very fresh.

As I've said on another topic it now needs people to come on board. If everyone waits for it to be a big happening thing before doing that then it'll never happen.

It requires a sign-up because I'm not going to be adding everyone's info for every gig, you sign up and you can do all that yourself. I'll verify your account before it's activates so I don't get overloaded with spammers. These things don't happen by themselves and I need to make it low maintenance at my end or it ain't gonna happen at all.

Thx for your response! Greatly appreciated. I'm just sorta looking for something on CB nation. It surprises me that no forum/group exists at CB nation tailored to this. Sent ya a friend request, just not looking to sign up for a site.

Fair enough. I reckon lots of people will feel the same, there's already too many obligations on working players without another web site to have to keep your stuff up to date on.

You could try starting a group on the nation although last time I tried to do that it wasn't possible. I'm not sure how many gigging musicians are active here either. Good luck though.

Thx for understanding! That was really all that was holding me back, I have a hard time keeping track of everything as is.. I don't see any way to start a group, that is why I posed the question. I just can't imagine their isn't something located at the CB nation page that'd help cbg'ists connect/share info/support each other aside from hitting a like button and commenting. Don't get me wrong, those things are nice, but they don't pay the between gig fuel/food bill.. Guessing everyone holds their cards real close to their chest, as in any musical community I've ever experienced, to ensure nobody is getting in on "their" action... Oh well, just gotta keep pounding the pavement, so to speak, I guess... It REALLY would be nice to have a GIG RESOURCE group on the nation, though.

Agreed, musicians are notoriusly competitive and when the pool of gigs is so small it doesn't help. Thought of trying Facebook? Most players promote themselves there so are already using it. I've created a cbggigs page there to go along with the site, I could add a corresponding group as well easily enough, may help the site get off the ground.

I'm on FB. I don't see the cbggigs page though.

Is that your friend request that just came through?

here's the fb page https://www.facebook.com/cbggigs

My profile pic on FB is a green oil painting of a man w/ mustache. If that one, yep!

Hi-perhaps I can help a little-basically the way I got going gig wise was via youtube videos-so if you haven't already, put up some vids-if peeps dig it then they get in touch and ask you to play a gig-that leads onto some other dude asking you to play another gig, then some guy out in Belgium asks you to play a festival, and so it goes..odlly enough, I've never actively sought out a gig-just put yer stuff out there-on cbn/youtube/facebook..thats all I did.

Greetings, Hollowbelly! That is how I got started too, on YT and at Farmers Markets.. Fun stuff! Been gigging for three years, upwards of 100+ gigs to include dive bars! video slot halls! pizza joints, festivals, cafés, coffee shops, internet radio, live radio, and have largely covered my state. Just trying to branch out to other geographic areas, and looking to establish contacts. If you have never actively sought a gig your material must be a lot more special than mine!! Have had FB, YT, RN, Bandcamp presence out there for that whole three year period. Just incorporating CBG into an act that has been strictly frailed banjo for three years. In incorporating CBG, figured it couldn't hurt to hit CB nation and try to find some resources. Greatly appreciate your response!

The Lord helps them as helps themselves....you've got to go there by yourself and put yourself about a bit. Well, truth be told, you've got to be prepared to put yourself about a lot...put in the hours and the miles. No one gig or event is going to make it for you, you need to be persistent, determined and hard working. Of course, a lot depends on what you are after..are you just looking for a place to play for fun, some public acclamation or to earn money..or a combination of all three?

Oh, and by the way...with all due respect to Cigar Box Nation...to get more gigs you'll you need to cast your net wider, and deal with the real big wide world to really start moving on. CBN is a great forum and super resource, but tends to be a little isolated from the rest of the Wide, Wide World who have never heard or seen a cigar box guitar before. That's where the real fun is to be had...preaching the gospel..and that has to be done face to face, not from behind a computer keyboard.

Thx chicken bone john! Been pay gigging out for three years. I know I'll never reach any notoriety, but enjoy performing, and being able to make a bit here & there. I've played all over the state of WV, and am basically trying to branch out to surrounding states, and just figured I'd throw this post up to possibly find any resources in those surrounding states. I am beginning to see, and with all props to CB nation on my part too, that it just may not have a condensed comprehensive resource like I am speaking of. I wondered about starting a new group, to that end, but I have no idea how to do so. Oh, and I hear ya on preaching the "gospel" as well. Just played my first CBG/suitcase drum show this past weekend, had a lot of fun. I am starting to think ya really gotta find a unique venue for CBG, as folks tend to look down their nose at the CBG. The whole pretentious, "I play a $2000 Gibson" deal... Anywho, enter me starting this discussion in an attempt to engage some folks in a conversation, and toss some ideas about. Your input is greatly appreciated! - Gary
