You can make 19 different chord sounds between open and the fifth fret. All of them by fingering one or two notes wile leaving the low string open. Even more if you start fretting the low string. But that's for another time. Instead of laying out all nineteen sounds let's start by playing some chord sounding riffs.

This first progression is a major sounding chord riff.

Now up to the fifth and seventh fret. Three more chord sounds. For a total of 21. The second gif is a chord progression using two new chords and a few you already know.  known chords are in gray.

OK now for something a bit more advanced. I’m calling it advanced. Because it using the fourth or pinky. The better part of what I’ll be sharing using the first three fingers. Because these are the easiest for most starting strummers to stranthen and get the hang of. But I gotta have some fun for the folks who have been playing a wile now. Everybody needs to have some fun.

Going back to the first five frets. Slid the third finger to the fifth fret and use the second on the fourth. This makes an easy transition between these three chord sounds.

Oops I messed up the demo. Ignore the open high string on the first chord.

Rat, I gotta say thank you. I was looking this morning for a different way to STRING my cbg, because I have been having issues with chord fingerings on it. I have been playing it with nothing but a slide up til recently, and was getting rather bored with the limitations of that, and wanted more from it. Now I just have to figure out what chords these diagrams come closest to mimicing... lol

thanks again...

Rod

Hey Rod. Thanks and your welcome! This is my main reason for doing this thread. I've heard quite a few people say they get board with just chords and slide. Wanted to show an easy to learn way to help. Plus show you don't have to bar all the way across all three strings to get a chord. Letting the low string be a drone. Making it even easier for beginners.

Sorry I can't help you with the chord mimicking aspect. Or much of any music theory. Taking the 'if it sounds good it is good' approach.

Sorry I haven't been adding more to this. Been having problems with features on this forum. Tossing around the idea of setting up a Youtube channel. I think what I'm doing here would benefit from that. Not only see but be able to hear what's being demonstrated. Plus I'll be able to reach a wider audience.

I'll keep ya'll updated.
