From the other posts about sound hole sizes Ive gotten that small equals deeper sound. What I don't know is, what exactly IS smaller on a ruler?
Trying to make a long process short. I plan on using F holes, but only making openings within the ends of the F's and leaving the rest painted black. With my measurements these 4 holes will total an opening area the same as a single 1.14" sound hole
Now, surface area wise, that's 1/3 the amount of hole as a single generic 2" drain cover hole so many use, and most I see use 2 or more. SO is 1/6th the usual amount of sound hole too small?
Of course, I can always cut out the rest of the holes to get it bigger, but I'm aiming for a deep tone, trying to replicate the sound of Lennypurnell's Harley Box seen here: http://www.cigarboxnation.com/video/harley-davidson-box-guitar

Lenny's Harley box sounds great -- it sounds to me like the sound -- on it's way to the amp -- is plugged into an effects box -- it sounds great. I think the effect that f-holes have is actually not all that dynamic. I put a small hole the size of a dime -- not on the front but on the side that looks up at me. Because I wanted to leave the front panel alone so it can vibrate fully. It works just fine for me -- the sound is good.

Try your idea. Better to have it and need it, than need it and not have it.
Also think about doing a prototype out if 1/8" - 1/4" MDF/pressboard. 'Bout the same tone structure and will save the box lid from... self inflicted damage. You'll have to cut the lid off from where it meets the box, but that's little damage. Plus if you get the Fholes the way you want, you can always use that as a cutting template.
