  • If possible clamp a piece of wood tightly against the top where you want to drill your sound hole. This will help to prevent the paper from being torn or shredded. The two bits suggested are very good (Forstner or brad tiped wood bits). Bit speed is, of course important. Too slow is not good. If you have a steady hand and as Xacto blade you can't go wrong using Taffy's idea.

    Good planning and the proper bits at the proper speed should make this work out for you without problems.

  • Hi, I would suggest going around the hole outline with a craft knife first, it will prevent tearout outside the hole area.

  • Forstner, Spade/Paddle bits, Hole saws, Scroll saws? Just tape the area beforehand? Works for me, there’s plenty of members that’ll chime in on what they use. Good luck on your build :)
