Be sure to check out the ever-growing collection of Cigar Box Guitar How-to articles over at www.CigarBoxGuitar.com. C. B. Gitty is building this library of carefully moderated and curated information, distilled from his own experience, the experience and input of other experts, and the abundance of info on Cigar Box nation, to make it easy for new and experienced builders alike to find the CBG how-to info they need.

The goal of the CigarBoxGuitar.com site is not to eclipse or replace Cigar Box Nation. CBN remains the biggest and best cigar box guitar community on the Internet, and is still the best place to upload photos and videos, post questions and engage with other builders and the CBG community. What CBN is not good at is presenting how-to information in a clear, cross-referenced and easily searchable manner. That's where CigarBoxGuitar.com comes in.

So if you haven't checked it out yet, browse on over and do so - there's a lot more there than just CBG how-to!

Here are two recent additions to the knowledgebase that address questions often asked by cigar box guitar builders:

  1. Zero Frets – How and Why to Use Them on Cigar Box Guitars

  2. “Open G” GDG Tuning on your Cigar Box Guitar: 4 Methods, with Strin...

String selection can be elusive for many beginners, myself included.   It is awesome to get an article and guide that simplifies the decision.  I think that your recommendations are valuable for most Readers of any experience level

Thank you, thank you, thank you...

I said good things when you first posted the manifesto, but this just gets better and better. The CBG movement really needed a responsibly moderated repository (Call it a "knowledge base" if you must.)--and who better than you to sponsor and maintain it.

Personally, I enjoy the dialogue that exists on CB Nation, but the free-wheeling exchanges of differing points of view are the very last thing I would want to show to a potential buyer or player of an instrument--or even someone who is just trying to get into building.

I know that more than once I've hijacked some newbie's simple question and launched into a rant about something that only I and two other people in the world care about. I'm sure the poor new guy is just blown away. Certainly, everyone just starting out deserves someplace safe where they can learn that "there are many ways to do this, but one that is commonly used is..."

Again, thank you for your dedication and patience. May your rewards be commensurate with your labor.

Thank you for the feedback TN, it is appreciated!

And here all this time I thought it was my movie star good looks...

A new article on cigar box guitar tunings just went live. This one focuses on the Open D DAD tuning... and it even includes sound clips of what the 4 different string sets sound like!

Click Here to View the Article on CigarBoxGuitar.com!

Today I updated the article on the Open G "GDG" tuning to include sound clips of what each specific GDG string set sounds like. Hopefully this will help people decide which ones they want to try!

cool site!

Thank you :)

I listend to the 4 clips, that was a great idea and can even be expanded on and explored more, someone could do the same with pickups and amps and mic comparisons and "how to record yourself on a budget" and there is lots of venunes to explore!

What BeetleJuice said. Those short sound bites are a great reference for seeing what the different strings sound like. A pickup comparison would be good reference too. I know you can find videos of people playing different combinations, but having them together in one place makes the research so much easier and If done where the same string set was used it would really show the variations of sounds of the pickups.

I just posted a new article on CBG tunings to the knowledgebase: Open E "EBE", which is great for playing the blues!
