  • Hey Don,  Thanks for picking up the gauntlet and taking on this challenge.  I would be interested in trying to meet up as well, I live in Providence so not that far really.  I unfortunately can't make this one but wanted to let you know I am interested in the future.

    Cheers and good luck!

    • Thanks Fred.  I've added you to the contact list for the next meet up.  I'll be in touch in advance of setting a date so that we can maximize the number who can make it.  Start thinking about Feb.

      Don

  • Thanks Guys.

Every journey begins with the first step.  We'll see what we can do with this idea.  It has to start with meeting the people that are into this stuff.  It is my hope that although small, it will turn into a spring board for other things in the region.

Next time, I'll PM you both and check what schedules are like.  I just felt I had to offer something concrete to people in order to get them to respond.  Nice to know there are a few.  I'll begin to find out what everyone wants to get out of this and begin to plan around it.  I keep hearing it said that someone needs to make this happen.  I'll give it a try.

My idea would be to try to encourage experienced builders to work with beginners in their areas.  It would also be great to try a build two-get one build group.  The idea is to each build two instruments and donate one to the CBG for Service Members in groups.  It would be great to get a few people together and mass produce a bunch.  I'm offering to build as many pickups for free to anyone interested in this project.

Workshops?  Love to hear ideas on what everyone would like to see and ideas they have.  I have heard from more than a few builders that would love to teach a workshop.  We really need to figure out how to make that happen and get those interested in getting started in building involved too.

Getting way ahead of myself here.  Need to survive the first meeting and begin to gather ideas and opinions.

    Again, thanks,

I'll try to plan this better next time so  you both can make it.  Spring is also coming soon enough so nice weather might make this easier.

For anyone elseinterested, there is still time.

  • Can't make it, I will be at the Albany gun show that weekend.  Hope it goes well and maybe I can make the next one.

  • Oh wow, you have an awesome workshop, very nice!!

    • I have to finish the other side of the basement this week and figure out what to do with the crap that I shoved up against one of the walls.  All of the bigger stuff is still on the garage side.  It is all the heavy sawdust makers there.  I have workable space for just about everything but might have to get rid of the radial arm saw as I can't seem to work out a space for it.

  • Hope you have a good turnout, please post some pics after!

    • Me too.  Short list so far but that's ok, have to start somewhere.  Too bad you have to work but I'll try to figure that out next time.

Been down cleaning and finishing the shop expansion.  I had been working mainly in my garage and had a small folding table on the other side of the basement. for assembly.  Bought some workbenches that needed some work for cheap then cleared out a lot of old equipment I had there.  Lots of space now.

A little preview for those still on the fence.

305957752?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024A lot more room for my bench stuff.

305958110?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024Just have to finish the other side this week before Saturday comes.
