What the hell is Mojo?
I am Scottish, I play folk, trad, bluegrass, and some country Americana music.
I searched wilkipedia for Mojo and never got an answer.
Is it some kind of magic or feeling, or is it a blues thing.

A magic charm or spell.
An amulet, often a small flannel bag containing one or more magic items, worn by adherents of hoodoo or voodoo.
Personal magnetism; charm.

Mojo is a marketing catch phrase that guitar builders use to convince others to buy their guitars :)

Just kidding. You want to look up Louisiana Hoodoo. If I remember correctly, mojo are the goodies that you keep in a little pouch that hangs around your neck to ward off evil spirits. I've heard this bag referred to as a mojo bag, but it's more correctly called a gris-gris (pronounced "gree").

A lot of the old school hoodoo out of the south is based on African tradition. It's very earthy, very primal, and very sexually charged. It also more or less goes hand in hand with blues music. So someone says they got their mojo working, they really saying they got some good luck voodoo rubbed up on them fixed to make the ladies hot.

It's a really deep tradition that stretches back to Africa all the way to the cradle of god damned civilization.

It's also one of my biggest damned pet peeves.
I posted this for a bit of fun, I had an idea it was some kind of voodoo thing.
Maybe I could make one with some haggis and shotbread in a bag.
Or in Scotland lucky white heather.

I saw a show on TV here about haggis. It just might work!!

I had some haggis last night tastes great, got a bit of heartburn now.
In addition to it being a physical object, it can be intangible as well.

Instead of saying "Lady Luck just isn't working for me tonight," you could say "my mojo ain't working tonight."

It can be a feeling, a charm, a thing of magic... and it sure is a blues thing, but it goes beyond the blues, too.

I'm going down to Louisiana to get me a mojo hand (x2)
I'm gonna have all you women right here at my command
Got my mojo working ,Got my mojo working, but it just won't work on you
Got my mojo working, Got my mojo working, but it - uh uh - just won't work on you
A spell or charm. Usually items where used to cast the spell.
A mojo hand was a very powerful charm held in the hand like a Gris-gris bag.

It was believed these bags contained magical fingers or hand bones, roots, coins, stones, etc....

Black Cat Bone
Kill a black cat at midnight and throw the bones into the Yazoo river. The one bone that moves up stream against the current is the magical black cat bone.
Some say that shiny, new, mass manufactured guitars and musical instruments don't have any mojo, but our hand made, gritty, made with love, CBGs have tons of mojo.

Our Scottish friend can come up with his new McMojo line and then the ninth circle of hell can be complete.
