If you've never ventured into electronics, but always wanted to make your own guitar pedal, then this video is for you.  The guys at DIYguitarpedals created this ultra-easy tutorial using the least amount of parts possible.

Parts needed:

  • MPSA13 Transistor
  • 10K Resistor
  • 100nf Film Capacitor (code will be 104)
  • 2.2uf Electrolytic Capacitor
  • 1n4148 or 1n914 Diode

That's it.  Get a soldering iron and you'll be crankin' leads to Blue Cheer songs in no time.

Thank you guys for verifying. I learned that lesson at the tender age of 14 when I bought a "grab bag" of peanut butter metric screws for my motorcycle. Didn't know for sure that that lesson applied to electronics, though...Thanks again!

I looked Tayda over a bit and have bookmarked their website for later reference. Thank you Brian! I am currently planning a project to try to build every piece aside from the tuners and strings from raw stock. I am also trying to source all of the parts I can't make from companies inside the U.S.. Is it possible to build amps, and guitar electronics from all U.S. manufacturers' parts? Used and new parts?

There’s plenty of U.S. suppliers, but not a lot of the parts are made here anymore, just the most expensive ones :D  Thailand,Malaysia,Philippines & Taiwan make better semiconductors & components than China does, better QC testing I guess? Good luck on your projects

Yeh, that's what I was afraid of. Is TI a good company to work with? Funny you should mention the most expensive electronics being from the U.S. I really don't mind spending extra if it keeps Americans employed. I just buy less.

From that list of alternatives to China, I think I think I'll just start looking with Tayda, Thailand. The country just gave away tens of millions of dollars of medical masks to the world, including the U.S.. That's a lot of good will to me.

Thank you for all that info, guys.

Actually that list was where most U.S. companies like Motorola, Central & Fairchild have their quality components made, only place semiconductors are being U.S. made these days is in Silicon Valley here in California? Mostly computer stuff? Overseas doesn’t always mean lesser quality, it just means lower labor costs? Even most of Texas Instruments stuff is made in those countries. Only way to gauge quality is to try them?

Volume Control Stripboard

Here’s one in action from the Stripboard layout above, I used a 1n4148 diode
