This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?

I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.

A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

Thanks Taff, I like the bars better than the all thread, strength wise. I'll see if Amazon carries the book.

ok, fold...lol

WOW.

That guy knows what he’s doing.  Too much for me. Although it’s square. Frustrating that the regular cross cut thing with the miter gauge has indents for common angles. The 90 degree indent is off a hair. I make it work by pulling the indent pin out and moving it till square. Just making excuses cause I, at this point, don’t want to make one. More than one way to skin a cat. Sorry for the rambling.

We got some good videos and a lot of good advise for everyone on how and what to use thanks to this discussion.

got another vid of the same jig.  And even another one showing the math. Wont be installing the stop block idea. A ruler, clamp and block of wood is all that's really needed.

table saw sled

Definitely a tool all CBG need because we all need small pieces of wood.

Thanks Blue.

hmmm. that one isn't gonna happen. for me, anyway. but the description on how to do the "runners" is great.

Great videos. Great discussion. Nice to hear all us builders come together and agree on something simple yet complex.

How about orbital sanders. Or any hand held motorized sander. I use my black and decker orbital sander as a paint brush. only thing is the rubber covered switch. it likes to turn itself back on. experienced a strange night. now i unplug it.

I still go with plug-in. The last two sanders I've had were B & D. One lasted 2years because it only got used making the occasional guitar and the other I bought for a project topper for my truck which I hope will last to the end of the project.

I get the "Jitterbug" type of sander(back and forth motion) because the rotary type can leave swirl patterns that are hard to get rid of if done to deeply and the deep swirl is easy to get.

I do have a orbital sander that only gets used to wax/buff the cars.

Keep the orbital sander moving. Wax on, wax off. If you keep it moving you’ll avoid swirl marks.

I finished working out the issues with that pickup conversion I was working on(C.B.Gitty minibucker with Seymour Duncan logo on base underside). I was able to finalize the Firebird conversion for that pickup. They are a hard pickup to deal with because the coils aren't mounted to the baseplate and if there's no wax potting, the coils will flop around if the baseplate becomes loose. Anyway, it's done and it sounds great.

The Tele Bridge pickup is fantastic for the Strat, it has a raw and fatter tone than the Strat bridge pickup. Having a tone pot to help with the bridge pickup is a lot better too(most Strats have tone pot for neck and tone pot for middle, but not the bridge which usually leads to a pickup that's too bright).

This DeArmond style Gold Foil in the middle is fantastic. These have 2 - Alnico 5 bar magnets under the coils like a P90 has. They are a bit on the hot side(neck is 9k DSR and bridge was 10k DSR), glad I used the neck pickup that's a little less hot, had to set it low. Gets great raw tone for blues/rock, but can also do great cleans. It pairs well with the Tele Bridge pickup that I had wound the opposite direction for RWRP #2 switch position.

The Converted Firebird pickup(7k DSR) is great for the neck position, awesome tone. It's wired to the 250k volume only and this works well with the 25.5" scale. Not too dark - not too bright. It pairs well with the gold foil in the #4 switch position and some quack can be acquired.

All in all this guitar is a joy to play and hard to put down. The pickup combinations make this guitar a "Swiss Army Knife" of guitars. It will handle any type of music or playing style well.
