Newbie question about marking frets.

Bare with me, I'm greener than a granny smith apple at this. Starting my first build and have watched tons of Glen's videos along with Shanes's. I am making my first CBG fretless and I have all the Gitty templates. Can I use these as guides even though I am going fretless. I will just mark the fret locations based on a video I watched by Dar Stellabotta. Any help will be appreciated..

Bill, Welcome to the addiction, glad to have you! Yes, for fretless you'll mark your feet lines just as if you're cutting fret slots, just make sure the template you select matches the scale length (nut to bridge) that you're building. When you play fretless, your slide will be directly over the top of the fret line as opposed to playing a fretted instrument where your fingers press just behind the fret wire. Ask anything, great group of humans on here to help and there are many different ways to do most things on your build.

Sure. And FWIW I only mark a few of the key ones. I've since added the 3rd too.

Bill, get a metallic sharpie, if you want a no frills technique? Also wood burned fret markers are equally nice on a fretless slider? Good luck on your build :)

Bill,

I just finished neck fret markings with a sharpie. I used a walnut neck and used a silver sharpie. These metallic Shapies are awesome. I actually changed the color of metal tuners with them and I mark the side of the neck only, as that is how I see the fret markings, based on how I play.

i have attached some photos of the fret markings and how the metallic Sharpies can change the color of metal.
