Does anyone here make their own glass slides?  I've made one successfully that I'm willing to stuff my finger into.  It ended up with one tiny crack that doesn't seem to come all the way to the outside.  I use a handheld glass cutter to score the bottle, warm it up with a small propane torch, then douse it in a cup of cold water.  If it looks ok I sand it on the concrete floor in the cellar (seems to work better than sandpaper).  The first one I made cracked a lot and pieces fell apart from it.

I'm finding that the thicker the glass, the tougher it is to cut it clean.  Also I think I'm heating a little too long, more than necessary.  A glass cutter specifically for bottle necks would probably help make the score more even as well.

Thanks Brian they come in handy at the saloon ...

Cool.  Curious, dou use them w the cork in them?

The cork is only to hold my toe tag .... just pull it out Cobba .

Done it a couple times with mixed results.  Last time I collected about 10 bottles, scored them all, then dipped them in near boiling water followed with ice water.  A few broke very clean, a few had chips or cracks, and a couple didn't come apart even trying multiple times.  There is probably 500 ways to do it on the interwebs but as this was free and easy having half of them work out is fine for me.  Just need to drink more wine!  Once at a party store the clerk asked if I needed help selecting a wine - I wanted to say it should be decent tasting, cheap and have a long straight neck.

nice slide dude, keep at it. I personally like them and each one seems to sound different depending on the type and thickness of the glass. I give them away when I sell or give a guitar.

Yes, I use the G2 glass cutter. This works best for me thus far. I have found that there is such a thing as too hot and too cold when going back and forth. What worked best for me to use a candle to heat the score and cold water back and forth. Less longitudinal cracks and chips this way, but takes more time.
