This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?

I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.

A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

finally scored some real cigar boxes!

lid is quite thick so im thing a bass.. 2 or 3 strings? leaning toward 3 and a 30" scale. probably EAD tuning.. still thinking about that .

Good looking box Timothy.

Timothy, a three string bass would be awesome! And the EAD tuning would be great for walking bass lines.

We as it's still the holidays I'm still sitting back and watching that fretboard sanding block radius jig video over and over. And working on my DAW. These new plugins are night and day better than what came with logic. I honestly think the plugin that come with the free program Audacity are better than the ones in Logic. I've learned how to delete the Voxengo plugins. And now I'm going through and making notes on the new plugins and what they do. Kind of hard to tell what it does when it's called 'RoughRider2, Neutrino or MJUCjr. :)

I just learned there's good news for those of us who use Audacity. If you go to their site you can down load a boat load of free plugins. After doing this I opened Audacity to find it will also work with 90% of the free stuff I just got for Logic Pro X. So yes you can get really great stuff for Audacity.

Here's a link to a youtube vid that has both the how to and audacity home link,

how to instal plugins in Audacity

Hey Ratty, can you please use a language I understand so I can join in. Ha ah.

Taff

I'm with you Taff, got more chance of understanding Klingon !

Hey Taffy, sorry about that. let me know what you don't understand and I'll do my best to explain.

Live and learn. I've just learned that a huge set of free plugins I've downloaded are free to download. But I'll have to buy a license for $50+ a year to use them. Looks like I have a few 'free' things to delete. It's all good. What I've never used i'll never miss. The company is called MediaProductions.com. So if you download there stuff be prepared to by a yearly licenses to use them.

is the licence only if you intend to sell your recordings?

@Taff   DAW= Digital Audio Workstaiton. basically a program to record music on a computer.

@CBTR  just scored a Behringer USB interface UGC102. it comes with Native Instruments Guitar Combos software. but i already have Guitar Rig 5. hopefully this will work better than the realtone cable i was using..

got the bass pretty well planned. 3 string , individual bridge pieces . single humbucker pickup and 30 "scale. going to use 40mm x 18 mm Tasmanian oak neck and a 8 mm fret board. wondering if i need to reinforce the neck. it will be 26mm or a fraction over an inch thick.

If you use a mini-bucker pickup(like the SnakeOil) close to the neck, you can get Gibson Thunderbird tones.

Or use the P Bass pickups for Fender tones in the middle position.

Which Bass tone are you trying for?

Timothy, the license is needed to validate the software. Without it I can't use it. So for $50+ a year I can use the free software? Not my understanding of free. What even more insane is non of the software they offer is unique. Not like they're the only ones who offer the type of program for free. There is only one item in all 33 'free' plugins that was recommended as the best of the freeware in that category. Not like I don't have one to use If I don't use theirs.

A bit of wisdom for those looking for plugins for their DAWs. What's good for the goose is not always the best for the gander. Use the best new lists as a way to find freeware that you would like to try. Below is a pic of four compressors.

The one on the upper left came with Logic and is a complicated monster to use. The other three are free VSTs. The upper right hand corner is my favorite compressor to date. And one I'd be willing to buy the full version of. The MJUCjr is very easy to use and very good sounding. It's based on an analog unite and has a warm sound to it. The RoughRider2 on the lower left is also a good sounding compressor. Giving a bit more control of the overall compression. On the lower right the VDR Kotelnikov is a pure digital compressor. This one can get harsh sounding if your not familiar with how a compressor works. But a totally awesome compressor. If you go looking for freeware try as many as you can. Can't beat the price. If your not that familiar with the workings use the simple ones. Like the MJUCjr. Great sounding with 80% of the work done for you.

I'm leaving a link to the MJUCjr. Because it works in Audacity!

MJUCjr

whatever i get Paul. P bass would be fine.  just going to be a single pickup closer to the neck than bridge.  the local supplier of the bridge pieces has sold out.. so now i might have to wait for ones from china. or pay 3 times the price for a different local( Aussie) supplier.

one thing i didnt factor in to the cost of this bass is the strings! wow are they expensive! cheapest set i could find was $40 AUD and the short scale set from D'Addario  are $70..

Not only are bass strings expensive. They don't last as long as guitar strings. Unless your a player who likes the dull thud of dead strings. If you can try Ebay or Amazon for the strings.
