Hey all,
I got my first "resonator" CBG today. My builder used the higher strings from a 6-string set so that I would get more of a banjo sound, and that is why this new git is tuned to DGB. I've only been playing CBG for less than a year, and my first CBG is tuned to GDG. I am totally use to that tuning, so this new DGB tuning is throwing me off. LOL, I can't play any of my GDG songs on this new git.
Months back I downloaded the GDG chord sheets from CB Gitty, but now I am wondering how to play chords with this new DGB tuning. Does anyone know where I can find them? Any help would be appreciated.

UPDATED SHEET 4/6/18 - 2:30PM:
Fixed...if you find any more mistakes, let me know. New pdf file attached.
anytime the chords are further down the neck, it's a lot easier to label the top of that particular chord rather than make it 9 frets long, it's a standard notation when writing chords you'll find in a lot of charts.
Totally aware. I just didn't notice it the first time. Like I said, I can edit anything wrong you guys find. Just let me know....we got alot of duplicate chords on this page. And check out those optional fingerings and let me know if they're okay or not.
in its simplest form a chord is 3 notes. The lowest note is usually the root note or the note that names the chord. however the same 3 notes but in a different order are called an inversion. but still having the same notes is still the same chord.
what you are seeing is the limitations of only 3 strings. to make a chord a minor chord you "flat the third" . lets start with a D chord whos notes are D F# A these are the first note ,the third note and the 5th note of the D scale. D E F# G A B C# D. so to make a Dm chord you need the notes D F and G see how the third note F# is now flattened to F.
here is where the chord chart problem comes in. to make a D7 or Dm7 or D9 etc you need to add a fourth note. we only can play 3 notes so we have to drop one of the notes to add the flat7th for example. so a D7 is D F# A C which do you drop? it shouldnt be the root D . on your chart you have dropped the F#to give D A C. here is the funny bit. of a 3 note chord depending on which of the 3 notes you take as root it can have different names and here is where my music theory ends... lol
so the tl,dr version is yes you can have the same 3 notes in the same 3 positions and be called a different chord.
Understood...some chords CANNOT be done on 3 strings...which means some of the duplicate chords on my chart need to be removed if they are not possible to play on 3 strings. So tell me what chords we should remove from my sheet. Keep in mind, I don't want to toss chords because they aren't commonly used though. You never know when you might want some unused chord. But if it's impossible to play a certain chord lets get it off the chart. Let me know...
no i didnt mean to remove chords from your chart. what i meant is that chords on a 3 string are sometimes a compromise. for example , i play knocking on heavens door. D G Am. my guitar is tuned DAD. so i could play the D as all three strings open. but to get a decent Am i need to play it on the 7th fret. in this case the D played open strings is too low. i play the G at the 5th fret all strings barred. so i had to play the D there too . in my tuning i could just fret the middle string at the 5th fret and get DDD. but i think playing theA on the 7th fret on the low string and the high string and the D at the 5th fret middle string gives me ADA. its still an approximation of a D chord but what i would call an inversion as the root note , the D , is not the lowest note.
again TL;DR
different fingerings for the same chord are great and dont cut them from your chart because in some songs they may sound better or be easier to play.
now i need to make myself some song sheets with chord blanks on top. i got some for six strings...lol
Nobody has address why my sheet has duplicate patterns. How can this be right?
Hmm, isn't the G# the 9th? What you have here is what I'd call an F#7.
what do you mean duplicate patterns? which chords?
Em and Em7
Fm and Fm7
I think that was it. Are my optional fingerings okay? And are there any other optional fingerings?
Make a list of any chords we absolutely should delete - ONLY because they don't sound right at all.
I'm still crazy busy with work right now, and will try and make revisions to the sheet soon.
And Turtle, I have no clue, LOL. I'm gonna have to let you guys duke it out over this. Let me know, and I'll fix my chart. These chords are coming over from a banjo chords chart and an online chord generator. I'm getting different results, hence the optional fingerings. That's why I need you guys to test this out and let me know what I need to edit.
ok quick look at those chords. suggested corrections in blue text new dots in red blobby things..lol
