Hey guys another newb here. I just discovered cbg's and want to build one. I've been to the local tobacco shops with no luck and was wondering where a good place to get few boxes might be? Thanks for any help you can give me and I really appreciate it.

usually Tobacco shops that have walkin humidors are the best places to pickup boxes....
Cigar / Tobacco shops, Liquor stores and I can usually find them at Flea Markets as well You can also consider using wooden boxes that some board type games come in, old silverware boxes, jewelery boxes, etc etc
Another alternative is make your own box using a heaver wood for the sides and simple plywood veneer for the top and bottom. I have had to reinforce the edges on the cigar boxes I used anyway. there are a lot of people who are actually making their own boxes in a way it is much simpler

Yeah Ive made my own. I admit it...Wow Ill feel better now

reinforced CB edges? The only CBs that I've reinforced has been on vintage boxes with very dried out and weaken wood... typical paper covered boxes are butt glued and stapled and will stand up to anything, especially on a neck thru. Even "pocket" neck designs, except for the block where the neck attaches, I haven't felt the need to reinforce modern CBs... and my CBGs get pounded as I gig them......

But, I'm more "adventuresome" (hehehehehehe) than some.

the best,

Wichita Sam

Thanks for the help guys. I checked with the local cigar shop and he didn't have anything and basically said he never would even though I saw some. I'll check the fleamarket and eBay and see what I can find.
I don't know where you live, but assuming you're not 100 miles from the nearest town, you need a better tobacco shop. I have two cigar shops in town roughly 3 miles apart that sell $2-20 cigars...so they have boxes when they are empty.

I was in Florida last week, and I visited a few places with no luck. The people there hand-rolling 'Cuban-seed' cigars for sale only had full boxes for sale, one store was closed for renovation and the other was beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes and had some cigars, but I could see they were 'low end' ones in a cardboard box....

I went on line and searched on Google for the area and did find a couple local cigar shops...interestingly, after finding a cigar dealer locator site of some type. One store belonged to some organization that implied credibility to me. Another had a a review posted on this search site...the user complained of bloated cigars suffering from excess humidity, and the store reeking of mildew and body odor...picky, picky, picky....

If you are in the US, and want to let me try my hand at locating something in your area, send me a zip code and I'll try to find the cigar dealer search thing again.

Oh, by the way, the local stores where I live in MI charge $3/box. My mother found a $1 and a $0.10 box at yard sales in FL, but she has the time. She found $5 metal boxes this weekend but I said I had enough for now.

The store I called told me $5/box. When I got there, the sign said $5-20! He still charged me $5. I got a Padron 1964 series commemorative box (with price tag stickers from the early 2000 years) that appeared to have been used repeatedly as it was stained inside. It has mahogany top and back with cedar sides, so I hope it has good tone ;O). Even at $5, this averages my 3 box take during my visit down there to $2.03 each.

Hey Murray,
Yeah I don't have much of a selection when it comes to cigar shops. The one I did go to had empty boxes but he wouldn't sell them he said which I really don't understand. I'm gonna check the dreaded eBay and I'm thinking about building one. If you run across that site again my zip is 30720. Again thanks for all the help fellas I really appreciate it.
Maybe I'm just lucky I have two shops with premium cigars and a lotta boxes to unload. Dalton, GA wasn't as easy as I assumed, but see if the following helps. I found a couple other sites that were not at all helpful.

If you have to spend significant time and gas money to get boxes, mail order might start to look better...

Hi,
If you are willing to pay the shipping from Chicago I'll send you a couple for free, I have extras. To heck w/ ebay.
I have 2 smaller ones that would join up well (see Diane in Chicago for ideas) and two mediums, all wood.
Lemme know, glad to help out.
Did I say to heck w/ ebay?
