I have a two-disc piezo pick up to install in a tin. I've bored the hole in the side of the tin and got the jack outward pointing and in place but what do I do with the discs? What's the best way to attach them to the lid of the tin? Sellotape? PVA glue? Any other method and I'm going to have to buy something to do it with. Would sellotape or PVA glue work? Which side of the piezo gets stuck to the tin lid? Is it bronze side down (directly on the lid with the white and bronze side visible inside the lid) or the other way around? This is my first dance so I'm totally confused lol. Excited to be amped up soon but still confused!
Thanks in advance.

That's a really neat little trick! Keeps things tidy looking too and I'm all for tidy looking. Can I ask, is the silicone the type I'd get in the hardware store for around the edge of the bath? Is that the same as the stuff that goes around the edge of a window frame too? Yours looks like it's clear whereas I thought the bathroom silicone sealant and the stuff around window frames was white. Would the white one work? I'd be very interested and very appreciative to know so that I could buy the right stuff if I don't get a glue gun. One of the things I love about CBG building is how cheap it can be and money is never in vast quantities around here. I might get shouted at for buying a hot glue gun that I'd only use a few times lol
The white would probably work, the clear I use I get at auto parts and hardware stores. After I stick the piezo in the wood, I let it set up and then smooth a layer over the top with a putty knife so there is a thin film over the wood and let that set up. That allows the option of moving it around when you are setting the location of the bridge, but once the strings are tuned it won't move on the box.
Thanks again, Thomas. I really like the idea of being able to move it around as needed. I worry about gluing it into the wrong place so this idea sounds like a winner. Thanks again :)
Just looking around at the silicone and hot glue options. Just to be double sure and not purchase the wrong thing, are we talking silicone gel here or is there a silicone glue I don't know about? Will the silicone sealant stick okay? I expect it must do, being a sealant, but how well will it stick to the metal of the piezo? Would it adhere to the metal tin lid if I mounted it on the underside of the tin lid? I think it's called 'potting' by putting it in a glob of silicone/glue and then putting more over the top?
Hi Dani, like the "Slow Blues" name, That's how I'm learning to play. This is the silicone I have been using. http://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/cntct_silicone/overview/Loctite-Cl...
Using it on the piezo bridges I make I let it cure for a day before putting it on the box. I have also used it to pot the piezo in a bottle cap and then after it cured used a bit more to stick the bottle cap inside the box or cookie tin used for the build. It will stick to just about anything.
Thanks Thomas. I know exactly what to look for now :)
"Music" is a term I don't think I can do justice with my limited abilities right now, Henry ; ) I'll add a recording of the noise from it though lol Thanks muchly :D
Is the silicone amber gel the silicone sealant though, Dave? Not sure if I'm supposed to be buying a silicone glue or the sealant is the right one. I'd hate to ruin a piezo pick up by doing the wrong one and not being able to remove sealant if it's wrong. Being poor demands I be careful this soon after Christmas lol
