I'm planning on building a licence plate  cigar box guitar and was wondering the difference in sound acoustically between the use of an aluminum licence plate or a steel licence plate. This will be my 4th build.

Paul

Light rock...aluminum...heavy metal...steel.

Just a play on words. Maybe give a listen on youtube to see if there is a noteable difference.

Aluminium might be considered brighter (toppier) where steel might be considered darker (middlier)... But there are so many other variables in whatever you wind up doing. They'll both work just do it :)

Paul, have done a few in aluminium,i've found it doesn't have the same resonance as steel, seems to sort of absorb the vibration, just my experiance, others might know more

Thanks for your input guys. I purchased what I believed at the time to be a steel licence plate. When it turned up in the mail it was aluminium. As suggested I'll go ahead with the build and can always source a metal licence plate and possibly swap them over. The licence plate has a picture of the Aussie flag.
Regards
Paul.
