My thoughts and opinions as I drink my second PBR with spicy hot V8 juice.   PBR and spicy hot V8 juice.  Cheap and good.  Like CBGs.

I see a decline in the numbers of videos and photos posted on CBN.   Is interest decreasing?

I have a shit-load of opinions on this, but right now, I want to hear what you think.  What is the state of the CBG world and where is it going?

I used to play every morning and post at least once a week, but I had the time to do that with my 3 year old boy going to a daycare/playgroup thing 4 days a week. Now my pc is down and I can't post straight from my mobile device to here. Plus I work asphalt and its that time of year again. On the plus side I took my cbg to my drummers house last week and played a tune I came up with and my band mates thought it was awesome. Our lead singer/guitar player has been living in Massachusetts for the last two years to accommodate his wife's job but they are moving back soon as she got a job teaching at one of our local colleges. I think a new Dirty Mothers album might get started this summer and I think its gonna have to feature some of my songs I've been writing on my 3 string cbg. Pbr and hot sauce sounds good. Almost as good as budwieser with chili powder and lime juice. In the mean time keep posting those that do and when I find time ill do the same.

Ho Lee Chit!! I just found this post Uncle John...16 pages from May 29th. If that doesn't say something about the CBG Nation, don't know what to say.  I'm thinking that it's demise has been predicted in error.

I haven't been putting much on here lately as life has got in the way of some of my fun stuff. Too many vehicles torn apart for maintenance and not enough hours to sit and noodle with my CBGs. I'm still building, have three in processes right now and a fun surprise monster hiding in the corner of the hotrod shop. (Sometimes builds just evolve from piles of junk.) But all that said, I don't see a decline, just the normal ebb and flow, (weren't they a folk group back on the '60s?) of life's processes.

Back to your beginnings of this thread, I think your PBR and spicy hot V8 may be part of the problem, but that's because I prefer a pint of Guinness or some good single malt scotch as my beverage of contemplation. Just because the count of pictures and videos has gone down some doesn't necessarily mean that the interest is going down. It's Spring time, crawling into Summer and people get that glazed look in their eyes from the anticipation of vacations and pretty young lasses in string bikinis.

As long as there are boxes and sticks the Nation will survive.

Sorry for the long rambling dissertation, after going through 16 pages my brain is somewhat fuzzy. Then again, it may just be the effects of long exposure to good blues over a background of adult beverages.

Keep on picking, the end of the world has been canceled for the foreseeable future.

Any movement goes through changes. Older members fade away, newer blood comes in. Every indication I can see about where the movement indicates that it is nowhere near peaking. That same spark of "wow I built a guitar myself and it actually sounds good, and I can't wait to start on the next one!" continues to captivate people. We are part of the larger Maker movement - regular everyday people realizing that you don't have to be an engineer or a wizard in an ivory tower to make cool stuff. And we're just getting started.

I hope that all stays true. Ben.  Thanks for you do.  Have fun in Bama?

What I experienced in Huntsville, Alabama is what convinced me I had to respond to this thread. This movement, and the community that makes it what it is, is alive and well and only going to get stronger.

Well said Ben :)

That pretty well sums it up Ben. The concept of "regular everyday people realizing that you don't have to be an engineer or a wizard in an ivory tower to make cool stuff", is what gives life to the Nation. It ain't rocket surgery, "it's a box and a stick", as Shane Speal puts it.

I've been so busy building kits for workshops (March and May), and building new instruments after selling almost all my inventory at the Studios of Key West Gallery exhibit (plus filling custom orders...), that I have not had/made time to jump on CBN! I cut and slotted 30 necks today... I'll finish shaping them tomorrow for the 30 kits I'll need for my next exhibit and 2 scheduled workshops later this summer. And, I have to create new and exciting instruments for the exhibit... That is actually my latest big news. Show and 2 workshops a few miles from Woodstock, the week of Labor Day as the finale for The Old North Branch Inn in upstate NY. It's a Guest House/Artist retreat with a great exhibit space, and a focus on art and music. 2 build a CBG workshops and the exhibit will wind up their season with a Labor Day CBG Celebration! As a retiree, if I wasn't having so much fun, this would be work!

My two cents as a newcomer...

I'm a player, not a builder.  I've been playing music since age 11(saxophone).  When a friend of mine was looking to start up a band, I added guitar at age 18.  To this day (I'm 43 now), I never had a single lesson.  Zero.  As a result, I never got above average.  Played in a few bands here and there until 2006 when I called it quits.  I was done.

Then, something funny happened.  I stumbled across a Hollowbelly video on YouTube.

It was a game changer.

This was everything I was looking for.  The spark restarted the fire that was long thought extinguished.

I searched high and low until, in March 2012, I bought my first CBG.  Still have it, still use it.  In fact, I judge all CBGs by my first love.  What can I say?  I'm a late bloomer.

Flash forward to 2014.  I have a handful of CBG exclusive gigs under my belt.  It's been a struggle, but totally worth the while.  Plus, as of a week ago, I finished my first CBG album.  There's a link in a blog (on a wart on a frog in a hole in the bottom of the sea) posted elsewhere on here (cough cough http://urbanbill.bandcamp.com/album/stubborn-as-a-mule).

Long story short, the cigar box guitar rekindled my love of making and playing music.  For that I will always be grateful.

Long story longer, the tomato juice & beer concoction I've heard referred to as a Michelada.  The version I've had is basically a Bloody Mary with beer substituted for the vodka.  Tasty, but in small doses.  True hair of the dog stuff.

Bill, seems like you've been around longer than that.  I guess you've been active. You do have the CBG-beez.

Ebb and flow...

Just remember, it's Spring/Summer.  Most people are posting less because they're outside doing things.  You see a decline in building, but an increase in playing.

No worries.  The revolution is chugging ahead

I think the movement goes on strong and long. It may not always seem like it but maybe that is because we have a few split interests here. So if the builders slow down in summer in order to sell then the builders may feel like someone or thing is missing. If the players slow down to play out more or to attend festivals or just to sing on street corners then there seems to be a feeling of someone or something missing. If it is just time to enjoy summer and maybe also mow the lawn it takes time away from building or playing or posting here.  Now don't get me wrong, I like posting about cbgs, but I do not like it more than playing or building them so if something has to give in order to make room for a summer with 4 kids and a ton of work needing done around the house it will probably be posting first. Not that I am much less active but maybe just less vocal. Of course that could just be me. Anyway, Shane we all can not wait to hear the new album!!! Ben, who won the banjo shane used on the album? ( if it was not me I think I will cry) Bill, I think your album is one of the most exciting things on bandcamp right now. I think I will buy the ep first, but that is just one of my neurotic habits about order. Still your cd ROCKS!!! everyone should check it out. Unc, I love the idea of that crazy drink of yours and will try it after I finally get a day off from work, the Navy and my kids. Now I want to know how your cd is comming along? Happy summer to all and log live the revolution!!!!!    matt
