My thoughts and opinions as I drink my second PBR with spicy hot V8 juice.   PBR and spicy hot V8 juice.  Cheap and good.  Like CBGs.

I see a decline in the numbers of videos and photos posted on CBN.   Is interest decreasing?

I have a shit-load of opinions on this, but right now, I want to hear what you think.  What is the state of the CBG world and where is it going?

Make one, David!

Personally I have never put much stuff on to CBN, I'm just not that guy. I got into it the same way Vinylhed did, I couldn't afford to buy a strumstick. But five years into making guitars and cahons and the like, I'm still doing it, still learning and still playing and still trying to improve, still getting inspiration from the many people on here - in fact UJ inspired me to post my first online vid years ago.

And I'm still enjoying it, which for me is the point, and I figure I'll keep doing it until I no longer enjoy it. CBN contributes to that because it is a community of supportive folk who are giving of their experience and keen to support others. I don't see that so much on You Tube or FB.

It introduces you to like-minded people who you share a common interest with. Interestingly, a couple of weeks back I met up for a few pints with someone in CBN, who has contributed to this forum, and he was talking about Dunbar's number which suggests that humans can comfortably maintain around 150 relationships and that this number of relationships is about right for a productive community. I think it was Dunbar's number, I'd had a few, and that's what I Googled the next day...

Anyhoo, I was reminded of it when I saw this post. I reckon CBN probably has around this many active members in different groups, or posting vids, or regularly posting pictures. The names have changed since I started lurking about, but I reckon the numbers are about the same.

Yup, Boxy.  And you and Vinly hit on one of the best things.  We want something - we make it.  Greatest hobby I ever heard of.  Making music and making the instrument we play and sometimes even writing the song.

Well remembered Boxy - those were some strong beers ;-)

Damn Uncle John!.. You open up a horny nest...I mean hornet nest lol....I don't know if they are decreasing....But if they are....each one that leave....2 more take their place...I always have people asking me question about CBG....You need to educate people...You need to put real info out there...Not Bullshit....When l do a festival, l try to spend more time with kids and people want to learn how to play or make CBG....I also donate a few Diddley Bow to different organization that teach kids how to play the Blues...As for numbers of videos and photos posted on CBN....I cant answer for everyone...But me....and I have no answer....

Good on you, Jim.

I think there will always be people that will get into this and then the thrill will wear off or they will get bored or move onto other things but the true builders/players will stick with it. I hope it never dies as I have found something that is close to my heart and will be playing them for the rest of my life.

Very interesting what a couple of PBR's brings out Unc!  I go through spells where I'm making instruments and posting vids about once a week and then family, home responsibilities, paying gigs and other stuff get in the way. But my enthusiasm for these instruments doesn't wane while I'm doing these other things! Today I did volunteer work fixing an elderly neighbor's roof and had no shop time - but the ideas were running through my head as I wielded the almighty nail gun. I felt good about that work but I think I'll feel even better when tomorrow (hopefully) I'll get some of those ideas out of my head in the shop. I'm newer to this stuff than a lot of you guys but I feel like I've found my calling for my retired years in this and have way more ideas than time to bring them to fruition! I'm going to have a beer now and ruminate on the meaning of all this!

Oh, one more point. If I'm inspired I'm alive. If I'm not, it's just uphill work effort and just don't feel like life to me. So inspiration is MAJOR and cigarbox and found-object 3, 2 or 1 string gits do that for me each and every time. Not for everyone of course, but I can't say enough how being inspired makes life worth living for me. I often get bits of that from reading and looking at other's ideas here. -Glenn

Well said, Glenn.  You reminded me of being new to cbgs and losing sleep at night thinking how I would do this or that to the build I was working on.  I still love to build.

Good on you, Jim.  I did my volunteer job today too.   Moving man for a local charity.   Man, we moved some heavy stuff today.  I am bushed.

I'm with Colin, here in St. Louis the CBG has taken off. The 2nd annual fest is in about ten days and expecting larger turn out than last year. However if you look on CBN you won't find many from the St. Louis area. I think the interest is still there and growing it's just that life get's in the way sometimes, especially if you have a young family busy with summer activities. My kids are grown and I don't have all those interuptions, but work really gets in the way during the summer.

So don't give up UJ, just give it some time and all your buddies will come back to play.
