Thank you Ted. I may not have a volume pot, would that matter. But I do have one wouldn't be a bad idea. But how would I wire all the hots to the pot? Maybe one of your diagrams will work. If you know of one perhaps you could direct me? I don't know if you've seen my page. http://www.cigarboxnation.com/profile/DanielWalter
I really love your work, I just need to study, you do so much!
WOW! Thank you Ted! Perfect!
Ted I didn't see it...do you have a wiring diagram for 2 single coil pickups with one jack one vol pot one tone pot and one 3 way switch....thanks John
Ted, I'm not sure if you have this covered or not. If you do, just tell me what the title of the slide is.
If not, can you decipher what this guy's guitar is doing?
His explanation from the comments:
The two pickups are balanced by each having their own seperate volume controls. There is also a master volume and tone control. I just figured the wiring myself but I think the Gibson Explorerer and Firebirds have similar wiring but without the master tone and volume
I love this sound and like how it can be played unplugged or plugged. Would like to build a 3 string that would be a reasonable facimile.
Thanks for any input you might have.
Hi Darren,
That's Smojo, he's a member here and at the Clubhouse. I would wire a setup like that a little different, I don't see any need for a 3rd volume control. Instead I would spec a volume and tone for the mag pickup and a volume for the piezo (a tone doesn't really work with a piezo). I'd wire them to a 3 way switch then to the jack.
Hi Ted. thank you for your past wisdom. i have a novel idea. still working on this guitar. my question is that i'd like to join the bottom of the box with rare earth magnets so i can pull it off and get to the electronics. (several pieces are involved, not just a hinge deal) i know it will work, but will the magnets affect the pickups? Thanks.
Dan
heh! Any magnets you use effect the pickup if the magnet field is close enough to the pick up. Even leaving an electric guitar leaning on a amp speaker change the pickup , changing the magnetics.
Hi Ted, anyone,
I purchased a couple long "end jacks" used to slip into a drilled hole in my solid body. They don't come with ny wiring instructions. Can I assume the longer lug is positive. The ground is obvious, and I don't need stereo. The unit is sealed, so I can't visually tell. Any ideas?
You probably already have the answer by now, but if it's a stereo end jack: the short lug is the tip, the longer lug the ring and the longest is ground. You can always test it by inserting a jack without its outer shell (sorry, language barrier) and test with a multimeter which lug on the jack connects to which lug on the end jack.
Hi Ted. Nobody has been able to answer this. On several of my guitars, I have electronic pickups and piezos, both have on/off. My bridges are always grounded, but my old house is not. So I get some buzz with the magnetic pickups. As soon as I turn on the piezos (magnetic on or off), bam, total silence, no hum, no buzz. ????
Daniel,
That's a new one for me. I'm stumped. My guess is that the piezo adds a certain resistance to the circuit, but that's just a blind stab in the dark. It looks like you stumbled upon a unique solution to the 60 cycle hum problem. I'm going to try it to solve a problem Ice Bob has with one of his guitars. Thanks!
Ted
