I just finished a Cohiba 4 stringer for a friend. I put a piezo under the bridge, added a volume control and some strap buttons. I used the steel wool and vinegar "stain" for the fingerboard and I think it turned out pretty nice.  Now I want to keep it!

I posted pics on my page, but I don't know how to post them here.

Iggy,

Do you see the last icon to the right on the bar about the text screen?... the one that looks like a camera? Click on it and follow the directions... voila'.... picture in your post....

Since I already added the pics to my personal page, I thought there was a way to post a link to them without having to re-upload them again. But, here you go.
sure, if all you want is a link, go to your page, put up your pic, copy the url and paste the url in your post.... but it's really nice to see your pics along with your post.... I'm a lazy surfer and I'd guess many others all too....

BTW, nice build....

A fine looking guitar. I can see why you want to keep it, you'll have to tell him it got stolen or something. Tell me more about the fingerboard stain. I never heard of that one.

Dissolve a (plain, no oils or soap) steel wool pad in a couple of cups of white vinegar in a glass jar. Don't seal the jar while any steel wool remains: the reaction produces gas, and you will have glass shards everywhere if you do. Once dissolved, use a cloth to wipe the solution on any tannic wood (oak is best, maple will work too, I think): the iron acetate (or whatever the compound is) bonds to the tannin, turning the wood darkish (can be almost black).

This is a water-based stain, so be aware that you can raise grain or cause swelling with it: I learned the hard way not to cut fret slots before staining. You can use it to touch up mars made during fretting, for instance, and it looks good under a tung oil finish.
Thanks for the lesson Tres, sounds cool
