Hi Marmalade,

The fret saw specification you are looking for is called the "kerf", which is a measure of the width of the slot cut by the saw blade. In the U.S. (still mostly a non-metric country), typical fret tang size is about .023" (inches) and so, a saw like the Harbor Freight's "Japanese Flush Cut Saw" works real well and it has a .024" kerf.

If I convert .023" to millimeters, I get 0.5842 millimeters. And you say your fret tangs are "055"? What units of measure? I assume millimeters, but it looks like our numbers are way off. Maybe you can double check where the decimal point is supposed to be.

Yes, that's rigth, it is 0.584. I found a japenese saw with a kerf finer than that number and it works fine. The ones sold for guitar makers are expensive and specially, for some, not very durable.
