What does everyone use for string pin ends? RIvet barrels? Grommets? What size do you use? I don't want to use washers. Help please. Thanks.

Hey Eric, I am going to use on my first CBG the red caps that came off syringes. One of my dogs is a dietabetic, and he has to have two injections a day. I was throwing the red caps away until I thought of reusing them on the tail piece. I was so surprised I had come up with the idea. After joining this community, I look at things in a different light, now. It is one idea. Some use rivet barrels, shoe string eyelets, grommets with 3/16" hole. At the Hobbylobby store, grommets are sold a hundred for $3 with six colors. Michael's Craft Store has the black, chrome, and gold grommets. I thought about using 22 rifle empty shells. I hope this helps you. Good luck.
watch out for those grommets from the scrapbooking secction of the craft store -- they are often made of very soft metal and the strings cut right into them.

I use rivet barrels, or run a piece of fretwire right next to the holes so the strings rest on that when the come off the tailpiece.
Thanks so much, Rivet barrels are what I want to use and will find some eventually. Thanks again.

I use tension pins. they have them with the nuts and bolts at lowes and home depot.
Saw those but I want something that has metal above the hole although I may resort to those on some future build. Thanks for the input.

pop rivet grommets... slap the middle out of the rivet and you have a 1/8" shank and a 1/4" cap. you can get pop rivet grommets in Alumimum, steel and chrome plated...

very easy to use and readily available....
You can also go to your local hobby store and buy Dubro servo mount hardware. The package contains a bunch of brass rivets that are the perfect size. I just drill a hole and super glue the rivet in place. About $2.00 for the package.

I use the pop rivet grommets also...plus I use the shafts for frets...just need a slight trim and file down the sharp ends.
Hi Guys, how do you slap the middle out of the rivet?

clare... hold the rivet with a pair of pliers, slap the pin again a hard surface and it pops out. ... Sam
