"Real ukes", that's funny! I'm just starting to use mortise and tenon for my "real" ukes but here is a pretty nice little blog article about using dovetail on ukes.  http://ukulele-innovation.tripod.com/

Before the m&t I would glue and screw the neck in place using epoxy. I've never had any problems doing it this way.

The boxes I've used for cb ukes were kinda thick IMO so I never used bracing

Ya, maybe "real ukes" was a bad choice of words.  My son took my CB uke home to show to some friends that have and play "real ukes" .  They actually liked mine better, for sound, looks and playing.  That is why I have more to build.  This is the one he took home.

Really nice!! I'm building 2 right now for my Granddaughter's. Love the Kokopelli sound hole. Very cool. I didn't know ole Koko played ukes! Just givin you a hard time about the "real ukes". They're all real ukes!!

This is one I just built for my grandson, he is 2.  Loves the movie CARS and love to play with a uke at is day care.  So I combined the two.  He was really excited when I gave it to him.  Carried it around for hours.

I have used a dovetail joint recently. I built a jig to cut it and it worked out pretty well. You can see a similar jig in action here:

Really a nice and clean join. I have the same fixture. Haven't tried the dovetail yet
