Question to everyone that sell CBGs, do you put your own label on them like the big guitar companies do?  Also, if you do, where do you place them, inside the box so you can see it through the sound hole, on back of the box, etc?

Thanks

well  for my guitars , since i make  my own body   ,,  in  keeping with traditional  cbg  theme  ..    i put my  logo  where the cigar  logo  would go  on the box .   i  have also  done the head stock  on other guits  .

and  i  simply  use  t-shirt transfer  paper , and an  iron. it works . (better on light   color woods tho)    you can see how here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qli-2VNODN8

and here's a picture

@ Swamp witch-man thats a cool logo.

I saw on Stewmac website for labels and that is why is brought the thought in my mind.  If I should do this or not.

totally up to  you ..     but that type of label   is usually on the inside  where  it can be seen through  a sound hole etc ..

many  builders    here just sign  and date and #  the guitar on the  back  with a sharpie  .

as the  numbers   etc    on this type  of label  are  hand written  in  pen  or thin marker     on a  prefabbed    stamp   with fill in the  blanks  spots ..   you  may want  it in a place it won't get rubbed off   ie  : inside .

I put a label in all mine, patterned after the early labels it is located in the guitar and vis-able thru the top F hole. This is so they can easily identify them as real when it gets on the antiques roadshow in 2089. I also number the necks to match the box label.

On the builds i'm proud of, i'll usually burn a decoration into the heel behind the neck or sometimes the headstock-but since no two are alike they don't realy count. Recently, I was ambushed by a roving yard sale and purchased an entire box of tiny Celtic-inspired cruciform earrings for about $5, so for the last 5 builds or so i've been affixing those to the heel instead.

If I actually get good enough at this to start building projects as an actual second job rather than a hobby that pays for itself, i'm going to think of an actual image i'd like to use for an honest-to-God Maker's Mark, purchase a blank brass plate made to fit into a woodburning pen, hire an engraver to trim the plate into my Mark-and from then on it would be a simple matter to plug in two pens, brand my Mark with one and freehand the ID number with the other....

For now though, I use no identifiers of any type

I use a phoenix on the headstock on mine, but no real label.

I think the drawing was meant for my thread... Thanks

I place my name and Phone number from my business card or the entire business card glued to the back...  No one has complained and it's easy access when they are being played out for the musician to show a possible client....

if you look inside an 'old world' instrument, anything from europe from c1740 on there appears to be a kind of a standard,

Builders name

city, country

serial number

date..

Theyre not always in the same order, but ninety something percent of old instruments are labelled in this way (visible thru one of the sound holes), so thats what i do,  I always assumed it was some sort of old luthiery custom or tradition.  I think if you don't sign them you oughtn't really be selling them yet.

as for a logo or trademark, well i think those are great too, i got my mr twig that i inlay

Absolutely put an identifying mark somewhere on your gits!  I have a label with my logo, serial #, and contact info inside.  Believe me, when your (hopefully satisfied) customer shows his/her pride and joy to their friends they're going to want one too, and you want them to know where to go!  Good luck with your sales!
