Hi Billy Bow, great to have you as a friend. Trev
Lovely stuff Billy Bow :)
Hello
Didn't realise that I had made a dowel guitar..the " half hour diddley bow " that's hanging as a mascot on my hut. I did use an old broom shank.
Have never made wound pups. The thought of all that winding of copper wire puts me off, specially when you can buy a single coil pup for less than a tenner
Excuse my ignorance ...but what is a dowel guitar?
The corners are made from sheet brass bought from a model shop.
Just cut out a square, mark the centre and use a hole saw to cut out a circle.
Cut the square into four (see photo) and cut out small squares from what will be the corner.
Fold the edges over a block of hardwood. I like to solder the corners but you don't have to.
Annealing (softening) the brass makes it easier to bend - heat it till it's dull red and let it cool slowly.
The corners are held in place with small brass pins( model shop again)
There are some photo's showing the Coppertop under construction on my page, let me know if you need more info
Sorry to say the North East seems to be a desert as far as the CBG is concerned, unless I've just missed posts from local enthusiasts on the Nation.
Happily there are still good venues to see live Blues, The Cluny, The Tyne Bar etc.(but it's not as good as it was in the olden days when we had the GoGo-- he said sounding like an old fart)
Thanks for the friend invitation.
Yes the coppertop was the 24th CBG I've built and no's 25 and 26 are nearly finished so I'm still a novice compared to some builders who have built hundreds.
