Hi all:I have several cigar box amps, some I've made using Gitty parts and some purchased from them.  I test the guitars I make with them, some piezo and some mag pu.  The magnetic pickups work great…Continue

Here is guitar #193.  I wanted to make one similar to my little Magnatone guitar that I had renovated a while back.  It is just a tad larger in proportions and has a 23 inch scale as opposed to the Magnatone 22 3/8 scale.  I am pleased with how it turned out.  Tuned it to C6, string spacing is a bit narrower than most but still very playable.See More

They are instruments that pretty much anyone can build and enjoy with very little expense and they can produce very unique sounds. I'm amazed at the vast range of creativity in the builds I have seen so far and they look like they will be great fun to play once I learn how.

Thanks.

We think alike on some of the basics... i.e. "Keep It Simple, Stupid."

I finally found an "A" drawing. Just the outline, but with people's info, I can plot the peg holes easy enough. It was getting the  angles to match that was throwing me.

is that a plank on a routed out 2Xwhatever?

Mr. Lutz...

You were suggested by another member as a source of info about wood hollow body lap steels.

What can you tell me? Are they worth the effort? I'm working on build #3, a 29.5 inch scale, 3 octive, 40" OAL Baritone lap steel. I've been thinking about a wood/metal or hollow body hybrid version of the Fouke baritone.

Also, I see "A" shape headstocks on yours. Do you have a dimensioned drawing? I'm going nuts trying to make them by the seat of my pants, and both have been a struggle. Maybe a source for an 'A' style route template?

Thanks for your time.

This is #146 guitar, a 23" scale lap steel tuned to C6 that I just finished today.  The walnut is from a cabin that was built here in Eureka Springs around 1880 and the back is from a hardwood headboard that came out of a local roadside motel that was built in the 50's.  I wanted to try an Art Deco style, I like how it turned out and have a couple more similar to this on the bench, the next one will be 25" scale.…
