Hi David.

I havent actually finished mine yet. But my approach was to allow the can to support itself but I soon realised that the can will eventually buckle under string tension after I saw a few videos on Youtube. Initially to cut the  hole in the top to allow the neck to pass through I used a utility knife and continually scored the lines till I cut through. I then used a manual can opener to cut the bottom out so I could build a 1/4" ply support structure within the can so it doesnt collapse on itself. When all is done I plan to just solder the bottom back in place
