Ok, Simple upgrade to my fret slot cutting jig

I made a simple upgrade to my slot cutting jig today and it sure helps. I clued some 1/4" hardboard to the bottom so I could clamp it down. Sure makes it a lot easier than trying to hold it while sawing. I think you can see it in the picture. Now I can adjust it for different widths of fret board, adjust to the depth I want to cut, adjust to the width of the saw blade and clamp it in place. Notice my other valuable tool: my head lamp. I use that thing a lot. My daughter give it to me for Christmas two years ago and I really use it. Coarse my wife doesn't like me walking around with my "geek light" on my head, but ahh, what does she know?

  • I just snug it enough to hold the fret board while I saw the fret grooves. Doesn't take much.

I have a "geek" light also! It clips to the brim of my ball cap. I also use it when I'm out "walking" at night in my wheelchair.
It's a great safety device and very handy for filing nuts... Does the wing nut in the (center bottom) put the squeeze on the fretboard?

  • Nice idea Doug, I like it.
  • YA, fretting is not my favorite part of a build either. But, The neck/fret board are 70% of the work to build a CBG so if I didn't do it I wouldn't feel like I built the thing.
